About Werner Kaffl
What I do, and why I do it…
For a photographer, my “vision” is truly to be taken literally! I am constantly blown away by the beauty that surrounds me and I love to allow others to see “my world” through my pictures.
It all started back in Munich, Germany, with my Mother being a qualified Photographer who was trained even the old way, meaning, Photography on glass plates.
My Father, too, is a passionate Photographer, using SLR cameras and photo film.
My original background is drawing, painting and airbrushing and I got my first digital camera around 1999. I’ve always been interested in technology, so my gear – and photos – became more and more sophisticated.
In 2010, I finally arrived here to New Zealand.
As so many before me, one of the first things I noticed was the incredible landscape and lighting, even colours here are so much stronger than in Europe!
Then I started taking photos here, too, just to show my friends the beauty of this country.
At some point I discovered my talent in Astrophotography, followed by more and more landscapes in dark conditions (dusk, dawn, night), I also started to combine landscapes with portraits, and so on.
This was, and still is, an incredible journey, and I still discover new perspectives and skills.
And so, as I said, my vision is allowing people to see through my eyes.
